Emergency Response

How fast can PG Restorations get to my property in Prince George?

Our phone line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. For active emergencies such as a burst pipe, sewer backup or a fire, we dispatch a crew as quickly as possible and give you an arrival estimate on the call. Because we are based on S Lyon St in Prince George, most homes and businesses in the city are a short drive away.

What should I do while I wait for the restoration crew?

Make sure everyone is safe first. If it is safe to do so, shut off the main water valve for a leak, turn off power to wet areas at the breaker, and move valuables and electronics away from water. Take photos of the damage for your insurance claim. Do not use a household vacuum on standing water, and do not re-enter a fire-damaged building until the fire department says it is safe. See our 24/7 emergency restoration page for a full checklist.

Do you work with both homes and businesses?

Yes. We restore houses, basements, condos, rental suites, offices, retail stores, restaurants and other commercial properties across Prince George. For businesses, we plan the work to keep your downtime as short as possible.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Prince George, including Downtown, College Heights, Hart Highlands, Westwood, the VLA, the Crescents, Heritage, Spruceland, Lakewood and the Foothills. If you are just outside city limits, call us and we will confirm coverage. See areas we serve.

Water Damage and Flooding

What is the difference between water damage and flood damage restoration?

Water damage restoration usually covers clean water from inside the building, such as a burst pipe, a failed water heater or a leaking appliance. Flood damage restoration covers water that enters from outside or from sewers, such as spring runoff, groundwater seepage or a sewer backup. Flood and sewage water can carry bacteria, so it needs extra cleaning, disinfection and often removal of soaked materials. Learn more about water damage restoration and flood damage restoration.

How long does it take to dry out a house after water damage?

Most rooms take about 3 to 5 days to dry with commercial air movers and dehumidifiers. The time depends on how much water there was, how long it sat, and what materials got wet. Hardwood, concrete and wall cavities take longer. We measure moisture every day and only stop drying when readings confirm the materials are back to normal levels.

How quickly can mould start growing after a leak?

Mould can start to grow within 24 to 48 hours on wet drywall, carpet, wood and insulation. That is why fast water extraction and drying matter so much. If you see or smell mould, we can assess it and remove affected materials safely.

Can wet carpet and drywall be saved?

Sometimes. Carpet and drywall soaked by clean water and dried quickly can often be saved. Materials soaked by sewage or floodwater, or wet for several days, usually need to be removed and replaced for health reasons. We test and explain what can stay and what has to go before anything is removed.

What causes basement flooding in Prince George?

The most common causes we see are burst or frozen pipes during cold snaps, failed sump pumps, sewer backups during heavy rain, high groundwater during spring melt, and blocked or damaged weeping tile. Homes in low areas near the Fraser and Nechako rivers can also face higher water levels during the spring freshet.

Fire and Smoke Damage

What does fire damage restoration include?

Fire damage restoration includes securing the property, removing debris, cleaning soot and smoke residue from surfaces, removing smoke odour, drying out water used to put out the fire, and repairing or rebuilding damaged areas. We also pack out and clean salvageable contents. Read more on our fire damage restoration page.

Can smoke odour really be removed?

Yes, in most cases. Smoke odour comes from tiny particles that settle into walls, ceilings, ducts, fabrics and furniture. We remove the residue at the source with specialized cleaning, then treat remaining odour with professional deodorization equipment. Simply painting over smoke damage without cleaning usually lets the smell come back.

Should I clean soot myself?

We recommend you do not. Soot is acidic and greasy, and wiping it with household cleaners can smear it deeper into paint, fabric and grout and cause permanent staining. It can also be a health hazard. Leave cleaning to a trained crew and take photos for your insurer instead.

Insurance and Cost

Does home insurance cover water, fire and flood damage?

Most home insurance policies in BC cover sudden and accidental water damage, such as a burst pipe, and most cover fire and smoke damage. Overland flooding and sewer backup are often separate add-ons. Coverage depends on your own policy, so check with your insurance provider or broker. We document the damage with photos, moisture readings and reports to support your claim.

Do you work directly with my insurance company?

Yes. We work with insurance adjusters every day. We provide the photos, moisture maps, scope of work and estimates your insurer needs, and we keep you updated so you are not stuck in the middle.

How much does restoration cost?

The cost depends on the size of the affected area, the type of water or fire damage, the materials involved, and how much rebuilding is needed. After we inspect the property, we give you a clear written scope and estimate. When the damage is covered by insurance, you usually only pay your deductible.

Do I have to use the restoration company my insurer recommends?

In BC, you can usually choose your own restoration company. Talk with your insurer, then call the company you trust. We are happy to work with your adjuster from the first day.
